Coal Miners Memorial Highway Dedicated On September 8, 2006
During the Neon Area Days Festivities a portion of KY State Route 317 that runs through Hemphill was designated as the "Coal Miners Highway". The portion of the highway dedicated runs along the "Coal Miner's Memorial". Signs were placed near Little Creek and across the Jackhorn Post Office. This dedication was a cooperative effort of several people devoted to honoring the coal miners of Letcher County.
